💉 'Tis the season for bloodwork! All the usual tests, plus extras to check for "premature ovarian failure" (...don't even get me started on problematic language use in the context of "reproductive" health...but let's just say my endo rolled her eyes as she used this phrase while a) indicating that this is what it's technically called, while b) emphasizing that she is not a fan of this descriptor. This further affirmed that she and I are a good match in terms of our perspectives/values and made me feel even better about having her as a partner in my T1D care/management!) - I prefer to think that perhaps my ovaries are opting for early retirement!?! 🦄💙 In all seriousness though, did you know that some ovarian "early retirement" can be attributed to autoimmune causes? As a human who lives with an autoimmune condition ( #t1d ), I am statistically more likely to experience other autoimmune conditions - hence today's screening. Until recently, I didn't know there can be an autoimmune cause for early menopause, so while I typically wouldn't put info about the status of my ovarian function "out there" publically, I have decided to share this info in case it is relevant to/helpful for other folks with ovaries who are living with T1D. #knowledgeispower
