*First of all, thank you to the author for letting me read his book.*
📚 Zarox is a nice little story about friendship, courage, and magic. It is set in a classic magical parallel world but full of innovative creatures. I developed a certain fondness for the trallops and their odd manner of speech. Rotlier Rum and Belfour (who are trallops) are, by far, my favorite characters of the story.
As far as the other characters are concerned, I will mainly speak of the four children that are the focal point of the story. I have some issues with the majority of them. It might just be that I am a bit touchy about this but I had a hard time liking Lucy and Parker when it came to their relationship with Riley. Lucy was plainly mean and disrespectful towards him. As for Parker, I didn't like his patronising tone towards Riley. Every time that Riley did something good or that he demonstrated great powers, it was brushed aside or belittled and I really couldn't stand it.
Other than that, those kids are remarkably brave and united, which is a very good message to spread through a middle-grade book. I very much appreciated the message of unity and protecting each other that was spread throughout this book.
Concerning the story in itself, it was a nice blend of Harry Potter, Narnia, and Percy Jackson. I didn't have a moment to breathe, it was action-packed, full of adventures and epic battles. I am sure that children would love this book and recognize themselves in one of the main characters, which is always a plus.
And well, there is a dragon...I love dragons ;) !
I definitely would recommend this book if you're looking for a quick, magical, entertaining read.📚
