Emotional balance is of the utmost importance in maintaining a healthy body. Even ordinary events such as stress can result in changes to the normal workings of the body. For example, many times our gastrointestinal (digestive) tract lets us know that we are under stress.
Recent findings in a peer-reviewed scientific journal demonstrate that eugenol, the chief component of Clove essential oil, assists the body in maintaining normal gastrointestinal motility even during times of stress.* The authors theorize that eugenol acts on stress-responsive regions of the brain, promoting balanced levels of stress-response hormones that are released throughout the body, which helps keep the gastrointestinal tract functioning properly.* Read about lice repelled by clove oil.

Eugenol can be found in Clove and cinnamon.
A wide array of synthetic antioxidant preservatives is readily used in the food industry, but is subject to strict regulation due to known toxicity and the potential for unknown health effects. The search for better alternatives has led researchers to begin studying many essential oils due to their high antioxidant potential. Attempting to further determine the safety of a common essential oil constituent, carvacrol, Turkish scientists applied carvacrol to human cells in vitro to determine its toxicity. The results of their research not only confirm the safety of carvacrol use, but also add to the evidence that essential oils are a powerful source of antioxidant molecules. To experience the antioxidant benefits of carvacrol, try Thyme or Oregano essential oils, both of which are particularly high in this constituent.* Learn about healthy inflammation response with carvacrol.

Well-regulated levels of inflammation are key to good health. There are many systems in place within the body that regulate inflammation levels. An article in the June 2015 issue of the scientific journal Inflammation suggests that carvacrol may help support the body’s normal immune response to inflammatory stressors*. An immune system under stress can sometimes overproduce inflammatory molecules, which can lead to adverse effects throughout the body. For example, when we undergo acute bouts of intense exercise, we trigger a natural inflammatory response. Carvacrol, a main chemical component of both Oregano and Thyme essential oils, may help assist the body’s normal immune system response to such stressors*. #carvacrol#doterrascience#aromaticchemistry#immuneresponse#inflammatoryresponse
One of the top constituents of Rose and Geranium essential oils is the monoterpene alcohol geraniol. Egyptian researchers recently published (September 2015) their findings, from an experimental non-clinical study, that orally ingested geraniol positively affects multiple biochemical pathways in the colon.* These pathways are involved in maintaining the health of colon cells. Not surprisingly, Geranium oil is one of the oils in the Zendocrine Detoxification blend.
An important aspect of digestive health is microbial balance in the colon (large intestine). Incredibly, there are over 10 million different types of bacteria in the colon.(1) Many of these bacteria are beneficial; some are not. A proper balance of the different types of bacteria in the gut is crucial for colon and digestive health. Italian researchers, in a preliminary preclinical study, found that ingested geraniol effectively supports healthy microbial balance* (March 2016).(2) As previously noted, geraniol, the top component of both Rose and Geranium essential oils, is known to support colon health.* Geraniol is also found in smaller amounts in lemongrass and lemon essential oils.
