Do you ever have days where you want to tackle every project and fix all of the world’s problems before noon? You wake up with a fresh determination, sporting the ultimate game face, and by the time the clock strikes 12pm you find yourself completely overwhelmed, ready to hide under the covers pleading for a re-do?
Me too. •
On days like these, I tend to think about the woman of noble character described in Proverbs 31. She is up before dawn, cooks, harvests, sews, helps those in need, always speaks with kindness (what?!), and is highly respected. And get this, she can laugh at the days to come! How I marvel at the fact that she accomplishes so much with a joyful spirit, when sometimes I laugh to keep from crying at the length of my to-do list! •
But here is the thing about the Proverbs 31 woman. She’s not super-woman. Rather she is a woman super tuned into the Source of her strength. She leans on the One who knows her by heart, the One she accomplishes all of these things for. It’s not about the performance of her tasks, it’s about the smile of her Lord. She is not perfect, but rather perfectly loved and covered by grace. She is a daughter of the King. Proverbs 31:30 says “Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades. The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God.” Instead of placing our value in how much we were able to accomplish on a given day, or how effortless we can make everything look, let’s remember that a life dedicated to trusting, honoring and leaning on God is the highest accomplishment, regardless of what our to-do list indicates. Let’s look ahead to the future and smile knowing that even though the task lists grow, so does the grace. •
