#7magicwords from @shameproofparenting
Day 6 of the #7MagicWords challenge asks for a word that rests - and I chose Safety.
When I think about resting in between taking action and sharing my voice, I know that I can only rest when I feel safe. When we are emotionally charged - especially when it comes to speaking about race/privilege- the time you take to rest can be seen as complacency. But, let me be clear: when we rest in safety and in spaces that allow us to recharge, we are giving ourselves time to regroup so we can get back out into the fight. When we rest out of fatigue, anger, sadness, apathy, or any similar emotions, we aren’t recharging and we aren’t in a safe space.
The most efficient way to rest in safety is to be honest about who you are, how you want to show up, and what barriers you have set up for yourself. No one can tell you how this looks, but it’s up to you to find your safe space to rest. #love#recharge#rest#safety#equality
RealSleep Tip™: Breathing exercises help calm the body + mind before bed. Lying in a comfortable position in bed, follow this sequence about five or six times:
Breathe in for 4 seconds
Hold breath for 7 seconds
Slowly breathe out for 8 seconds
