Mindset Monday: The "Other" Parts of Life 😂
This is a question we got from @theunrealprasiddhathapa. They wanted to know how a Mover manages other aspects of life like family, business, friends etc.
This is a great question because there is a philosophy in the movement culture of hard work and not being a Homer Simpson. 😂
For us personally, one of our main ideas is that there is more to life than movement. We humans have way more things going for us than just how well we move. Many of us have other passions like friends, family, music, kids, video games, and more. And the fact that you do have other passions doesn't make you any less of a person. So to manage these expectations and reality, here's the biggest life tip we can give on this:
Acknowledge what you want. Do you want to be the BEST mover ever? Cool. Train 8 hours a day and read that Charles Bukowski poem until it sinks in. Be okay with the cost of greatness.
Do you want to be "pretty good" but also have the other parts of life like friends, family, and fun? Also cool. The nice part about this it is it doesn't take NEAR as much work to be good. It's kind of like what Charles Poliquin explains with squats. Getting to a double bodyweight squat can be done with twice a week training. Getting to triple bodyweight takes twice a DAY 😂. Once you have decided where you want to end up, plan accordingly. If you want to be the best, dive in deep and be okay with what you miss out on. If you are okay with being good, find how you can get the most out your training then enjoy the rest of life as well.
For example, today I'm doing my legs which will take an hour and then I'll practice martial arts with Martina which will take another 1-2 hours. The rest of the day will be spent having fun, playing games, eating food, relaxing, and spending time with my wife. Will it lead to me being the best martial artist or the strongest athlete ever? No. But I have time for other things now.
So again, our best tip for managing the other parts of life is to start off with understanding what you want to achieve. From there, plan accordingly. For more detail on how we do this, check the IG stories!
#Yoketober Tip 23
Don't just talk about it
BE about it
It's very easy no days to have a a voice and a bold opinion.
It's another thing to actually take a stand in person and do the work in real life.
Today I started my day 6am and headed over to Westside Barbell to train with the AM crew.
I jumped in and got my ass handed to me pretty bad. It was humbling especially since I am usually the strongest squatter in the group. Today I was the weakest.
If you want to achieve what others don't
You need to do what others won't
Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and make the jump.
It's been 7 years since I have been to WSB and am still learning new things everyone I go in.
Grateful Louie is spending the time teaching me new things even with all he has going on. Looking forward to learning more from him and the crew this week.
Get off the key board and learn from people in real life . It's a way different experience.
