NFL News: Cowboys VP Stephen Jones admitted that WR Dez Bryant’s sideline demeanor can be a distraction for the team. “The other thing that we all see and it is certainly visible to anyone who watches our games, watches our sideline, is Dez is certainly a fiery guy who plays with a lot of emotion both on and off the field,” Jones said on the Cowboys’ Hangin’ With The Boys podcast, via the Dallas Morning News. “Sometimes that can be a distraction. It can be a distraction for Dez, it can be a distraction for other teammates. And we just have to really get our hands around when you put all the full body of work together where that’s headed.” As the offseason gets underway, there has been a lot of speculation regarding Bryant’s future in Dallas. Jones’ comments here certainly make the situation much more interesting.
Bryant’s production has significantly diminished in the Cowboys’ offense and it has led many team executives to consider be possibility of releasing him. However, owner Jerry Jones has voiced his support of Bryant and reiterated that he will return for the 2018 season.
Bryant finished the 2017 season with 69 receptions, 838 receiving yards, and 6 touchdowns, but has not posted a 1,000 yard season since 2014.
Bryant, 29, is set to enter the fourth year of his 5-year/$70M contract and stands to make a base salary of $12.5M for the 2018 season.
When asked about the possibility of accepting a pay cut to remain with the Cowboys last month, Bryant scoffed at the idea and said he believes in his ability to make good on his deal.
