We made a last minute trip to check out Gunung Batur. Justin drove us through the night, slept for 2 hours, and woke up st 3 AM to hike 1.7 treacherous kms up the mountain to watch the sun rise. Right behind us, Mt Agung erupted in the distance as the sun began to rise... Some of our best memories are the unexpected special moments we’ve shared.
Hall of Mirrors (Galerie de Glaces) is the most grandiose room found in the Palace of Versailles (Château de Versailles). It reflects the economic prosperity through the number and size of the 357 mirrors bedecking the 17 arches opposite the windows, demonstrating that the new French manufacture could rival the Venetian monopoly on mirror manufacturing. At the time mirror was a great luxury and only the rich could afford having a mirror. So, ladies be grateful that now you can find mirrors everywhere.
Despite being French though and through, it was the first time that JM visited this Palace and he was proud of the French culture at that time. As for me, though I found that all all the luxury items found in every nook and cranny of the grand appartement are undoubtedly beautiful and artistic, for my personal taste it is too much.
Unfortunately the grand appartement of the queen was renovated at that time. It's a good excuse for me to revisit it one day. This Palace is so huge. Make sure you arrive early to be able to enjoy the grand appartements, the Trianons, and the beautiful garden. If you don't want to walk around, and you can take a mini train to go around the Palace. You can stop at some appointed stations in the Palace area and take the same train without having to pay again
